The Lamayuru Monastery in Lamayouro is one of the oldest and most significant monasteries in Ladakh. It is perched at a high altitude of 3,511 metres above sea level. Apart from being one of the largest monasteries in all of Ladakh, this Tibetan Buddhist monastery is also the oldest gompa in the region and is known as “the place of freedom” or “Tharpa Ling”.

Khardung La pass is a gateway to some of the most enchanting and unexplored landscapes. This famed mountain pass is very popular amongst adventure seekers and regular tourists alike. Located in the Leh district of the Indian Union Territory, Khardung La is situated at an elevation of 5,359 meters.  It is hailed to be the highest motorable pass all across the globe. Historically speaking, Khardung La is quite significant as it lies on the major caravan route that links Leh to Kashgar in Central Asia.  

A tri-armed valley that is separated by Nubra (Siachan) River and Shyok River, Nubra Valley in Ladakh is popular for its cold desert and picturesque landscape. The valley is connected to Leh with Khardung La, one of the highest motorable passes in the world. Nubra valley is amongst the top tourist attractions in Ladakh and its Diskit Monastery and Hunder Village are a must-visit.

Pangong Lake also known as Pangong Tso is a beautiful endorheic lake situated in the Himalayas.Pangong Lake is situated at a height of 4350 m and is one of the biggest tourist attractions of the country.

Chang La Pass is third highest motorable mountain pass in the world & a popular tourist attraction in Ladakh.

Druk Padma Karpo School(3 Idiot Movie Rancho School) & This school was conferred on of the most beautiful schools in the world by BBC London in the year 2016.

Shey complex that comprises a monastery and a palace, Shey was once the summer capital of Ladakh. The monastery is known for its giant copper with gilded gold statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, which is said to be the second-largest statue in Ladakh and a must-see.

Sarchu, also known as Sir Bhum Chun is yet another mesmerizing abode located in the borders of the north Indian state of Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh. It is known as one of the halt points for an overnight stay for adventure enthusiasts travelling along the expressway connecting Leh and Manali. This camping site is located 250 km from Leh and 220 km from Manali. Sarchu offers an amazing view of nature and the great Himalayan range.

    Manali to Sarchu

    Today we make an early start our journey to Leh Stopping at Sarchu for a night. Today we skip Rohtang Pass (3978 m) and cross the 9 km-long Atal Tunnel, the longest highway tunnel in the world which connects the Manali Solang valley to the Lahaul and Spiti valleys in Himachal Pradesh and the Zanskar valley in Ladakh. This is the major route to Ladakh which remains accessible for the public from June to October. Today enroute we cross Keylong (3350 m), Baralacha Pass (4890m) with overnight stopover at Sarchu (4253 m), border of the states of Himachal Pradesh (Lahaul) and Jammu & Kashmir (Ladakh). Upon arrival in Sarchu we check in at our tented campsite for overnight stay.

    Sarchu to Leh

    After an early breakfast we check out from the hotel and ride north on the Manali-Leh Highway. You get to see some of the most breath taking landscapes that the Western Himalayas can offer. The scenery gets more stark and barren as we climb up to the 16,500-foot high Baralacha La the second mountain pass on our journey. From the pass beautiful views of meadows and snow-capped mountains can be seen. And we proceed further through Nakeela and Lachangla Pass 16,617 ft. Lunch at Pang. After Lunch drive to Leh passing through Skyangchu Thang (Biggest and Highest Plateau on Earth on Stretch of 42 Kms), Tanglang La Pass 17,585ft and Indus Valley.   • Day 6

    Leh–Nubra Valley via Khardung La 18,390 FT.

    Post breakfast we drive to Nubra Valley. The road journey from Leh to Nubra Valley passes over Khardung La (The Highest Motorable Road In The World) at 5,602 Mtrs / 18,390 Ft, around 39 km from Leh. From the pass, one can see all the way south over the Indus valley to seemingly endless peaks and ridges of the Zanskar range, and north to the giants of the Saser massif. Nubra Valley is popularly known as Ldumra or the valley of flowers. It is situated in the north of Ladakh between the Karakoram and Ladakh ranges of the Himalayas. The average altitude of the valley is 10,000 Ft. above sea level.Upon arrival in Nubra we check in at our Camp OR Hotel. Evening we drive to Hunder where you have opportunity to ride on a bacterian camel (double humped) amidst the sand dunes of this high altitude desert with snowcapped mountains on the horizon. Between Hunder and Diskit you come across sand dunes besides the road. Seen in isolation you could well be amongst the sand dunes of the Thar Desert in Rajasthan. On the return stop at Diskit which is the headquarter town of Nubra Valley. Stroll around the bazaar observing the shops and local people going about their daily chores. Diskit is famous for 515 years old Buddhist Monastery, lying magnificently situated on a hilltop, facing the entire Valley. Later we drive back Camp / Guest House for Dinner & Overnight

    Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake

    Post breakfast we drive towards Pangong Tso via Agham & Shyok Valley. Some of the road patches in areas are extremely tough (towards nubra side) in terms of road conditions but no doubt the journey is very scenic! Later after crossing this adventurous part we drive further towards Durbuk & Tangtse for Pangong you pass through few small villages of Changthang and finally you can have a sudden view of the Pangong lake situated at 14,000 feet (4,267 m).     Pangong Lake to Leh Via Changla

    Morning at leisure to explore the beauty of lake and later we drive back to Leh via Changla Pass 5486 Mtrs enroute visiting Thiksey an impressive complex rising tier upon tier on a hill above the village and another 5 Kms driving through a picturesque landscape we reach to Shey Palace, The ancient capital of Ladakh & 3 Idiots Rancho School. Drive further to Leh and check in at our hotel / Guest House for Overnight.

    Leh

    After an early breakfast we ride to the 11th Century Lamayuru Monastery enroute visiting the mesmerizing Moon Landscapes (you will believe why the name of this area is Moonland. Exactly the same formations of Land are visible as on the moon), Lamayuru is spectacularly located along the valley plain and surrounded by mountains on all sides. On your return drive to Leh you first visit the AlchiGompa. The complex of temples located within the village is the most celebrated of Ladakh’s monasteries and dates back to the 11th century. Finally you arrive back at Leh for an overnight stay at your Hotel / Guest House.
